Last year Crystal Dynamics gave us their re-boot of the Tomb Raider series. It was a gritty and more story driven game then it’s predecessors taking obvious inspiration from the Uncharted franchise. With large set pieces and great cinematic, but having a much darker tone from the Uncharted series. The game was meant to be the origin story of Lara Croft and now we have our first glimpse into the next chapter of Ms. Croft.
At Xbox’s E3 press conference on Monday Crystal Dynamics premiered their first trailer for the next game in the Tomb Raider franchise, Rise of the Tomb Raider. The CGI trailer shows a hooded Lara Croft receiving psychiatric help while images of her latest adventure flash on the screen.
Lara is seen running from a charging bear, leaping across a deep crevasse and silently stalking a armed man in a cave. The trailer gives off the same tone as the 2013 game did, these are meant to be a much darker realistic take on the Tomb Raider franchise and I love it.
The title of the game and the end of the trailer hint to a new Lara Croft. Instead of the at times scared and overwhelmed adventurer in the 2013 game Lara seems to have blossomed into the tomb raider we all know and love.
The Rise of the Tomb Raider will release this holiday season and you can watch the CGI trailer below.
