We didn’t have to wait long to see the first gameplay footage for the next Mortal Kombat game, Mortal Kombat X. Just a week after releasing the announcement trailer for the game we were treated to the first gameplay footage at Sony’s E3 press conference.
Within the footage we were also introduced to two new characters that will be joining the Mortal Kombat franchise. D’Vorah a woman/insect and Ferra & Torr a giant man (Torr) carrying a smaller lady (Ferra). The introduction of Ferra & Torr leads me to believe that this Mortal Kombat will feature light and heavy characters, much like Injustic Gods Among Us.
In fact the entire gameplay video had a very Injustice feel, which in no way is a bad thing. Injustic God’s Among Us was one of my favorite games of last year and easily one of my favorite fighting games of all time. If NetherRealm Studios can bring the Mortal Kombat background and feel to and build off the Injustice foundation they will have a major hit on their hands.
From the 2:30 trailer it looks as though they may have succeeded. The game plays a lot like Injustice but has the brutality we have come to expect from Mortal Kombat. We are shown spines cracking, faces being stabbed and at the end of the trailer a quick montage of fatalities. It’s Mortal Kombat at it’s best and it’s never looked better.
You can watch the brutal gameplay video below and Mortal Kombat X will be out in 2015
